Who Was Area Mama?

Area Mama was a crossdresser in Abuja, Nigeria. He gained popularity on social media platforms for his bold and unapologetic expression of his identity. Despite facing frequent harassment and threats due to his lifestyle, he continued to be active online, particularly on TikTok.

The Incident

On August 8, 2024, Area Mama was found dead along the Katampe-Mabushi expressway in Abuja. His body was discovered in a pool of blood, with visible bruises and scratches, indicating that he might have been assaulted before his death.

Police Investigation

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) police have launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding Area Mama’s death. According to reports, the police received a distress call early in the morning about a body lying motionless on the expressway. Upon arrival, they found the crossdresser with no identification on him, dressed in female clothing. The body was then taken to Maitama District Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The FCT Commissioner of Police, Benneth Igweh, has ordered a thorough investigation to uncover the truth behind the murder. The police have urged anyone with information to come forward as they work to bring the perpetrators to justice.
