Vahyala Kwaga, the Country Director for BudgIT, confirmed the attack in a public statement released on Friday, April 10, 2026. He detailed the violent nature of the home invasion and the weapons used by the perpetrators. “Initial reports indicate that five men, wielding machetes, broke into his residence at night on the 4th of April 2026 and inflicted severe injuries to his head and upper body,” Kwaga stated.
This incident matters greatly because it raises serious concerns about the safety of civic workers and transparency advocates in Nigeria. While the organisation is still investigating the primary motive behind the home invasion, there are growing fears that Sadiq was targeted because of his professional duties.
