On Tuesday in Cross River, kidnappers abducted commuters on the Ikom-Ogoja Highway.

Sule Balarabe, the commissioner of police in Cross River, acknowledged the kidnapping but stated that the exact number of victims had not yet been determined.

A tactical team, which included members of the police anti-kidnap squad, had been dispatched in the region as they awaited word from the divisional police officer in the area regarding the number of victims.

Okay.ng was informed by an eyewitness that the gun-wielding kidnappers kidnapped nine people between the communities of Okomita and Uyanghoa in the vicinity of Calabar.

He claimed that the assailants fired at passing vehicles to get them to stop as they emerged from the nearby forest.

He added that some of the passengers sustained gunshot wounds before the gunmen moved others into the forest.
