The Nigerian Army has come forward to refute reports that some of its soldiers killed traders and killed one in Aba market, Abia State.
Refuting the reports in a statement, Col. Sagir Musa, Deputy Director, Public Relations, 82 Division, said the report is false and intended to spoil the image of Nigerian soldiers.
Okay Nigeria had reported last week that Tukur Buratai, Chief of Army Staff, ordered the total clampdown on the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, that could pose threats to the conduct of the upcoming elections.
Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, called on his followers to boycott the elections as the group fixed referendum for Biafra Republic on February 16.
However, reports has been flying around of soldiers descending on Igbo youths especially in Aba, Abia State where some persons were said to have been shot dead.
In the statement refuting the claims earlier, Sagir explained that there was an incident involving 144 Battalion patrol team and some traders at Asa – Nnentu spare parts market in Ugwunagbo Local Government Area of Abia State but none of them were shot or killed.
He also revealed that six members of the IPOB were arrested and handed over to the Nigeria Police, Abia State Command.
