Afro-fusion artist Ahmed Ololade, popularly known as Asake, has stirred controversy on social media with clips from his latest music video, “Only Me.”

The video, directed by TG Omori, has triggered a significant uproar, particularly among individuals of the Christian faith, due to its use of Catholic priest garments.

In the viral snippet, Asake and his backup dancers are seen wearing attire typically associated with Catholic priests, and engaging in dance moves that some critics have deemed disrespectful to the Christian faith.

The video’s director, TG Omori, responded to the criticisms, defending the creative choices made in the production.

Omori asserted that creativity should transcend religious sentiments and bias.

While some netizens commended the artistic expression, others expressed their displeasure, accusing Asake of disrespecting the Christian religion.

Some pointed out that a similar situation occurred when Logos Olori, a signee of Davido, released a video, leading to widespread condemnation.

Here are some comments from social media:

  • @martins.turner: “Asake, look at how you mocked the Catholic religion. Your battles are with God. Asake, do the needful and delete this video.”
  • @thefeyiii: “Theatre art student at his finest.”
  • @Bidal4Life: “Change your concept, please, it’s getting stale. The cinematography is top-notch though.”
  • @BG_Liberty: “This video, 2/10. What a disrespect to Christianity. I wish you can try this with your own religion.”
  • @damilola069: “Christian religion looks like a playing ground; you can do anything and go scot-free.”
  • @heyjerey_nft: “TG Omori and crowd, one day you people would tell him the truth.”
  • @tinugrills: “Asake makes the best videos, no cap. But sha the religion of peace won’t accept this.”
