Ashleigh Plumptre Alleges Corruption by Officials as Reason Behind WAFCON Squad Exclusion

By Adamu Abubakar Isa

ABUJA, Nigeria — Super Falcons defender Ashleigh Plumptre has alleged that corrupt officials were responsible for her exclusion from Nigeria’s squad for the upcoming Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), claiming she refused to comply with demands made of her.

In a series of posts shared on social media, Plumptre said she was left out of the squad by officials who allegedly requested something she was unwilling to provide, insisting that her talent, hard work, commitment and dedication to representing Nigeria should have been enough to secure her place in the team.

The defender expressed disappointment over the decision, describing the situation as deeply painful. She said representing Nigeria had always been an honour and maintained that she would never compromise her personal values in exchange for a national team call-up.

Okay News reports that Plumptre further accused unnamed officials of corruption and challenged them to explain the circumstances surrounding her omission from the squad.

She warned against what she described as any attempt to spread false narratives about her exclusion, alleging that some individuals may seek to conceal incompetence or personal interests. The player also threatened to publicly disclose details of what transpired behind the scenes if misleading explanations are provided to Nigerians.

As of the time of filing this report, the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) and the Super Falcons coaching crew have not publicly responded to the allegations.
