The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has agreed to participate in the general election coming up in February.

okay reported earlier that ASUU, INEC were meeting today to discuss if the current strike won’t affect the 2019 general elections.

The agreement was reached at a meeting between the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and officials of the union in Abuja.

Mahmood Yakubu, INEC chairman, had on Thursday raised concern that the bulk of critical election duty staff are drawn from the universities.

“We are determined to ensure that (election) processes are not affected by the union’s industrial action. ASUU is a critical partner to the commission in delivering credible elections,” he said.
