At least three people were killed and ten others wounded after a shooting erupted during a Hanukkah celebration at Bondi Beach in Sydney, according to initial media reports.

The incident occurred as members of the Jewish community gathered for the religious event, which drew an estimated 2,000 attendees. Panic broke out when gunfire was heard near Campbell Parade, prompting crowds to flee and seek shelter in nearby buildings and residential properties.

Witnesses reported hearing dozens of gunshots as people ran for safety. A Sky News reporter at the scene described chaotic scenes, saying many individuals hid in back gardens and nearby homes as the situation unfolded.

The shooting reportedly took place as community leaders were addressing the crowd. David Ossip, head of the Jewish Board of Deputies, was speaking moments before attendees began dispersing in fear. Opposition Leader Kelly Sloane had also been expected to speak at the event.

Police were swiftly deployed to the area and evacuated the celebration site. Authorities urged the public to avoid Bondi Beach while investigations continue. There were also unconfirmed reports of stabbings, though officials have not yet verified these claims.

Emergency services are working to confirm the number of casualties and determine the motive behind the attack. As of the time of reporting, no official statement has been issued on whether a suspect has been arrested.

Further updates are expected as police release more details.
