Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, a former presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, hosted a strategic meeting with the state chairmen of the African Democratic Congress from all thirty-six states of Nigeria and the Federal Capital Territory at his Abuja residence on Monday.

Okay News reports that the meeting, which was led by the Kogi State African Democratic Congress Chairman, Ogga Kingsley, was convened to formally welcome Atiku following his recent registration as a member of the party. Atiku shared the development in a post on his official X account on Tuesday.

Kingsley expressed the collective sentiment of the state chairmen, stating that they were delighted to welcome Atiku as a “bona fide member” of the African Democratic Congress. Reflecting on the event, Atiku expressed satisfaction with his formal entry into the party and emphasized the urgency of what he described as a collective rescue mission for the nation.

He urged other members and leaders within the coalition to complete their registration immediately, stressing that no one could afford to “sit on the fence” at this critical time. Atiku also commended the African Democratic Congress leadership across the states for their dedication to the future of Nigeria, highlighting the shared objective of achieving a secure and prosperous nation.

“I am indeed pleased to see that leaders of the party at the state level are thinking with the future of our country in mind. Together, we are committed to our resolve to work towards a secure, united, and prosperous Nigeria. The All Progressives Congress is bent on wrecking our country, and we are ready to stop them from doing so,” he said.

Atiku’s formal entry into the African Democratic Congress ended months of speculation about his political next steps. Shortly after receiving his ADC membership card in Jada 1 Ward, Adamawa State, he publicly declared his intent to lead a new political front and encouraged his supporters nationwide to register with the party.

In July, the former Vice President resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party, citing internal divisions and a deviation from the party’s founding principles as reasons for his departure. He described leaving the PDP as “heartbreaking” but necessary due to irreconcilable differences within the party.
