Former vice-president Atiku Abubakar has criticised the administration of Bola Ahmed Tinubu over the resurgence of terrorist attacks in Borno State.
Okay News reports that Atiku expressed sadness over the latest attacks in the state and the return of suicide bombings, which he said had previously been largely defeated.
The former presidential candidate said the recent killings of soldiers and civilians by terrorists have revived memories of 2014 when insurgent attacks by Boko Haram were at their peak.
While commending the sacrifices of Nigerian troops engaged in counterinsurgency operations, Atiku urged the federal government to review its current security strategies.
According to him, the resurgence of terrorism could erode public confidence in the government’s ability to protect citizens.
Atiku said Nigerians are less concerned about official statements condemning attacks and more focused on tangible results in the fight against insecurity.
He also accused the government of focusing more on political battles with opposition figures than addressing the worsening security challenges facing the country.
The former vice-president further stated that terrorists do not distinguish between supporters of the ruling All Progressives Congress and members of opposition parties, urging the government to take constructive criticism seriously.
Atiku additionally criticised the president’s ongoing visit to the United Kingdom, saying the government should prioritise addressing the security crisis at home.
He warned that continued insecurity could undermine public trust and urged authorities to intensify efforts to protect lives and property across the country.
