Abuja, Nigeria – Alhaji Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) on Wednesday canvassed support for their candidates ahead of the February 21 FCT Area Council elections, urging residents to turn out in large numbers.
Okay News reports that the party’s delegation, which included former presidential candidate Peter Obi, met with voters in Gwarinpa, Abuja, to highlight what they described as the importance of the upcoming poll. The leaders said the election would serve as a test of how prepared electoral authorities are to conduct free, fair and credible polls.
The ADC representatives encouraged residents across the Federal Capital Territory councils to support the party’s candidates, describing them as individuals with the competence and integrity to deliver effective grassroots leadership. They also urged voters to resist any form of intimidation and exercise their civic rights peacefully.
In their remarks, the party criticised the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), accusing the administration of President Bola Tinubu of failing to address economic hardship, insecurity and other national challenges. The ADC leaders said the FCT elections present an opportunity for voters to begin charting a new political direction.
