Badenoch Criticizes Starmer Following Resignation

LONDON, United Kingdom: The Leader of the UK Conservative Party, Kemi Badenoch, criticized Keir Starmer on Monday after he announced his resignation as leader of the Labour Party and Prime Minister of the United Kingdom.

Okay News reports that Starmer announced his resignation on Monday after less than two years in office, stating he would step down as Labour leader while remaining prime minister until a successor is elected.

Badenoch reacted in a post on X, blaming Starmer’s administration for a series of policy failures. She accused the Labour government of increasing National Insurance contributions, introducing the Family Farm Tax, abandoning welfare reforms, underfunding defence, and failing to expand domestic oil and gas production.

“Hiking national insurance. The Family Farm Tax. Giving up on real welfare reform. Not funding our defence. Not drilling our own oil and gas. Appointing Peter Mandelson… then lying about what had happened,” Badenoch said.

Badenoch stated that the country remains manageable despite the change in leadership. “Britain is not ungovernable. Keir Starmer is a terrible Prime Minister,” Badenoch said.

The Conservative leader argued that the issues extend to other Labour lawmakers, whom she accused of prioritizing higher taxes for welfare spending. “But the problem isn’t just Starmer. Labour MPs only want higher taxes to hand out more benefits, as the Welfare Secretary has pointed out. These are Labour’s choices and their values, regardless of who is running the party,” Badenoch said.

She called for a return to Conservative leadership. “We need to get Britain working again. We need the Conservatives,” Badenoch said. Starmer delivered his resignation speech outside 10 Downing Street, pledging to remain in office until Labour elects a new leader.
