Bala Mohammed Debunks Rumors of Returning to PDP for 2027 Ticket

By Adamu Abubakar Isa

BAUCHI, Nigeria — Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed has strongly dismissed circulating reports suggesting his imminent return to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to run as a vice-presidential candidate alongside former President Goodluck Jonathan.

The denial followed a wave of viral social media reports claiming that Mohammed, who recently dumped the PDP, was negotiating an exit from the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) to boost a unified opposition ticket ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Okay News reports that Governor Mohammed swiftly issued a personal disclaimer on Sunday, May 31, 2026, ordering the public to completely disregard the speculation as inaccurate political maneuvering.

“For the sake of clarity, my focus remains firmly on contesting for the Bauchi South Senatorial District seat under the platform of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM),” Mohammed stated. “Any reports suggesting a different political course should be disregarded as speculative and inaccurate.”

The political drama unfolds immediately after a major realigning weekend where Governor Mohammed officially resigned his long-standing membership from the PDP during a stakeholders’ meeting on Saturday, defecting to the APM alongside party delegates loyal to the Tanimu Turaki-led executive faction. Observers believe the sudden party switch marks an aggressive reconfiguration of northern political structures as alternative parties expand their footholds for upcoming legislative and gubernatorial battles.
