Bandits Ambush Sunday Igboho’s Security Team in Oyo Forest

OYO STATE, Nigeria: Several members of a private security outfit linked to Nigerian Yoruba Nation campaigner Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho, sustained injuries during a gun battle with suspected cross-border bandits in the Old Oyo National Park in Oyo State on Friday, June 26, 2026.

Okay News reports that operatives from the Iru Ekun security group were conducting an operation to track and dislodge suspected kidnappers in the forest reserve when the ambush occurred.

The security team deployed surveillance drones to monitor the movements of armed groups and identify suspected criminal hideouts prior to advancing into the park.

Heavily armed men opened fire on the advancing security personnel, triggering a gunfight inside the forest reserve and resulting in gunshot wounds for several Iru Ekun operatives.

The exact number of injured personnel remains unconfirmed, and the Oyo State Police Command and its spokesperson, DSP Olayinka Ayanlade, did not respond to requests for comment regarding the incident as of 8:19 AM WAT.
