Thousands of supporters of Inqilab Moncho have converged on the streets of Dhaka for the funeral of their leader, Sharif Osman bin Hadi, as authorities deployed heavy security across key areas of the capital. The funeral prayer is scheduled to hold at Manik Mia Avenue near Bangladesh’s parliament complex, with movement restricted amid fears of unrest.
Osman Hadi died on December 18 in Singapore, days after he was shot at close range in Dhaka’s Bijoynagar area. He had been flown abroad for emergency medical treatment but later succumbed to his injuries. His death has sparked widespread protests, with activists demanding justice and accountability for the killing.
The tense atmosphere has drawn sharp reactions from civil society groups and political parties, some of which have accused the interim government of failing to maintain law and order. While Inqilab Moncho leaders have urged supporters to remain peaceful during the funeral procession, authorities remain on high alert as pressure mounts to prevent further violence in the capital.
