Barcelona Seal £69.3m Deal for Newcastle’s Anthony Gordon

By Adamu Abubakar Isa

BARCELONA, Spain — Spanish giants Barcelona have officially finalized the signing of England forward Anthony Gordon from Newcastle United in a blockbuster transfer worth £69.3 million (€80 million) including add-ons.

The 25-year-old winger completed his medical examinations in Catalonia on Thursday and signed a five-year contract on Friday, May 29, keeping him at the Camp Nou until 2031.

Okay News reports that Barcelona advanced aggressively earlier in the week to beat out heavy competition from Bayern Munich and Liverpool. The Spanish champions were eager to wrap up the paperwork before Gordon flies out to Florida on Monday to join Thomas Tuchel’s England squad ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The deal represents a massive financial windfall for Newcastle, marking the second-most expensive sale in the club’s history. The Magpies also secured vital future incentives, including a sell-on clause and up to €10 million in potential add-ons tied to silverware and appearances. However, Everton will pocket a portion of the initial fee due to a 15% sell-on clause embedded in his 2023 move to St James’ Park.

Gordon finished the domestic campaign as Newcastle’s top scorer with 17 goals in all competitions, turning heads across Europe by netting 10 goals in a stellar UEFA Champions League run. His blistering pace, high defensive work rate, and ability to play across the front line made him a priority target for Barcelona manager Hansi Flick. Gordon’s arrival heavily indicates that Barcelona will pass on making Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford’s loan deal permanent, clearing the left flank for the incoming Englishman.
