Abuja, NIGERIA – Former presidential aide Bashir Ahmad has dismissed questions regarding his loyalty to the All Progressives Congress (APC), describing the doubts raised by some party members as “hilarious.”
Okay News reports that in a statement released on Sunday, April 12, 2026, Ahmad defended his long-standing history with the party, noting that he has been a registered member since 2014. He highlighted his service in various high-level capacities, including his role as Deputy Chairman of the Social Media and Special Operations Committee for the 2023 Presidential Campaign Council.
Ahmad expressed surprise that individuals who only joined the party after the 2023 elections are now questioning his commitment. “I joined the APC in 2014… out of my personal conviction because I believed in the party’s ideals,” he stated. “That conviction remains unchanged.”
Notably, Ahmad clarified that his loyalty is to the party’s ideals rather than any specific individual, asserting that if his membership were tied to a person, he would have left long ago. He vowed to continue supporting the APC and confirmed he will campaign for President Bola Tinubu, Kano State Governor Abba Yusuf, and any leader he believes is working for the public good.
His mention of Governor Abba Yusuf—who was elected under the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP)—alongside President Tinubu has sparked conversation among political observers regarding the current nature of cross-party alliances and regional politics ahead of 2027.
