Bala Mohammed, the governor of Bauchi State, has appointed Haruna Danyaya as the 17th Emir of Ningi.

Danyaya’s appointment follows the passing of his father, Yunusa Muhammad Danyaya, who ruled for 46 years before his death on August 25.

The state government announced the new appointment in a statement released on Sunday, signed by Mukhtar Gidado, the governor’s special adviser on media and publicity.

The statement expressed the governor’s confidence in Haruna Danyaya’s ability to uphold and continue his father’s legacy.

“This is to officially inform the general public that His Excellency, Senator Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed, CON, Fnipr (Kauran Daular Usmaniyya), the executive governor of Bauchi State, has approved the appointment of Alhaji Haruna Yunusa Danyaya, the eldest son of the late Emir, as the 17th Emir of Ningi with a 1st Class status,” the statement reads.

Governor Mohammed’s decision is said to be in accordance with the powers granted to him under Cap. 24 Item 3 (1) of the laws of Bauchi State of Nigeria (Appointment of Emirs/Chiefs and Deposition 1991), as well as the recommendations of the Ningi Emirate kingmakers.

The official appointment was conveyed in a letter signed by the Secretary to the Bauchi State Government, Barrister Ibrahim Muhammad Kashim.

“Bauchi State government expresses its confidence in the new Emir’s ability to continue the legacy of his late father in fostering unity, peace, and development in the Ningi Emirate and Bauchi State as a whole,” the statement added.

“Bauchi State Government under the inspirational leadership of governor Bala Mohammed remains committed to supporting the traditional institutions in the state as they play a crucial role in maintaining peace and progress in our communities.

“Governor Bala Mohammed prayed for the peaceful repose of the late Emir’s soul, also extends his warm felicitations and prayers for good health, long life and successful reign of the new Emir.”

Before his appointment as Emir, Haruna Danyaya served as the Chiroman Ningi, a title within the Ningi Emirate.
