The Bauchi State Police Command has foiled a robbery operation and arrested two suspected armed robbers found in possession of locally made firearms and a stolen motorcycle in Azare town, Katagum Local Government Area.

The command’s spokesperson, Ahmad Wakil, confirmed the incident to journalists on Sunday in Bauchi. He said the operation followed a distress call received around 5:00 a.m. on Saturday from a resident of the Gandum Wambai area in Azare.

According to Wakil, the caller reported that armed individuals had stormed his business premises, GKY Food and Oil Mills, threatening occupants with guns before fleeing with a motorcycle.

Okay News reports the police, working in collaboration with local vigilante groups, swiftly launched a pursuit that led to the arrest of the suspects at Lafiya village along the Lafiya–Gwasame road.

“Items recovered from the suspects include two locally made guns and the stolen Bajaj motorcycle,” Wakil disclosed.

The Commissioner of Police, Sani-Omolori Aliyu, commended the officers and members of the vigilante group for their prompt and coordinated response, describing it as a demonstration of the command’s renewed commitment to proactive policing.

Aliyu reaffirmed the command’s resolve to sustain its fight against criminality and ensure the safety of residents across the state.

Wakil further revealed that investigations were ongoing to determine whether the suspects were part of a larger criminal syndicate operating within Bauchi and neighbouring states.

He urged residents to remain alert and report suspicious activities to the nearest police formation to help maintain peace and security in their communities.
