Yenagoa, Bayelsa – The Bayelsa State House of Assembly has confirmed the appointment of Peter Akpe as deputy governor of Bayelsa State.
Akpe, an ordained pastor of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), previously served as chief of staff to Governor Douye Diri before his nomination.
Okay News gathered that his career spans the civil service and politics, having worked in both the Rivers and Bayelsa state civil services before transitioning fully into political office. He was a two-term member of the Bayelsa State House of Assembly from 2011 to 2019, serving as majority leader throughout his tenure. Akpe also held office as commissioner between 2008 and 2011 under the administration of former governor Seriake Dickson.
The confirmation clears the way for his swearing-in as deputy governor.
Akpe’s appointment follows the death of the former deputy governor, Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, who passed away in December.
