Yenagoa, BAYELSA — The Governor of Taraba State, H.E. Agbu Kefas, alongside High Chief Government Oweizide Ekpemupolo (popularly known as Tompolo), was received at the Bayelsa State Government House on Monday.
The visit, hosted by Governor Douye Diri, focused on strengthening the historical ties between the two states and exploring new frontiers for economic and security cooperation.
The meeting comes just weeks after President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s historic visit to Bayelsa to commission key infrastructure projects, including the 60MW gas turbine and the Angiama-Oporoma bridge. Governor Diri emphasized that the visit serves as a “strong reminder” that shared heritage and identity transcend political affiliations.
Okay News reports that the inclusion of Tompolo—a key figure in Niger Delta maritime security—suggests that discussions likely touched upon the protection of critical national assets and the stabilization of the inland waterways that connect the South-South and the Middle Belt.
Governor Kefas, who recently successfully hosted the 2026 Nwunyo Fishing Festival in Taraba, has been a vocal advocate for “strategic alignments” to ensure his state’s inclusion in national development. The collaboration with Bayelsa is viewed as a move to synchronize development efforts in Agriculture and Power, particularly as Taraba seeks to leverage Bayelsa’s success in independent power generation. Diri noted that through “unity, mutual respect, and continuous engagement,” both states can secure a better future for their people, especially as the May 30 primary deadline for the 2027 elections begins to reshape political alliances across the country.
