Benue Declares May 22 Public Holiday to Mourn Killed Priests

The Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom has declared Tuesday, May 22, work free day to honour the two catholic priests who were recently killed with 17 worshippers in Mbalom, Gwer East Local Government Area of the state.

The two catholic priests and 17 worshippers were slaughtered by armed Fulani herdsmen at St. Ignatius’ Catholic Church, Ayar, Gwer.

The killings caused outrage throughout the country and forced President Muhammadu Buhari to deploy soldiers to the state to stop the killings.
