The Senate on Thursday confirmed Dr. Bernard Mohammed Doro as a minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria following a smooth and brief screening process.

During the session, which lasted less than 30 minutes, lawmakers expressed confidence in Doro’s wealth of experience and leadership capacity, commending his qualifications and professional background.

The Plateau-born technocrat, who becomes the third minister from his state in the current administration, pledged to uphold fairness and transparency in managing Nigeria’s humanitarian affairs.
“I will create a humanitarian ecosystem that is inclusive, guided by impartiality and independence,” Doro assured senators during his appearance before the upper chamber.

Okay News reports that the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, announced Doro’s confirmation after lawmakers unanimously approved his nomination. He was asked to take a bow and leave, a tradition reserved for nominees deemed highly competent and credible.

President Bola Tinubu had earlier forwarded Doro’s name to the Senate in accordance with Section 147 (2) of the 1999 Constitution (as amended). Akpabio read the President’s request at plenary and referred it to the Committee of the Whole for immediate consideration.

Doro’s nomination followed the elevation of his predecessor, Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, who currently serves as the National Chairman of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Presidential spokesman Bayo Onanuga described Doro as a “highly qualified professional with over two decades of experience spanning clinical practice, pharmaceutical management, and strategic leadership roles in Nigeria and the United Kingdom.”

Born on January 23, 1969, in Kwall, Bassa Local Government Area of Plateau State, Doro holds degrees in Pharmacy and Law, an MBA in IT-driven business strategy, and a Master’s degree in Advanced Clinical Practice.

“He is an Independent Prescriber and Advanced Clinical Practitioner with NHS frontline experience across urgent care, walk-in centres, GP practices, and hospital settings,” Onanuga added.

With the Senate’s confirmation, Dr. Doro is expected to be sworn in as a member of the Federal Executive Council at the next cabinet meeting.
