Popular Nigerian crossdresser, Idris Okuneye, widely known as Bobrisky, has vehemently rejected being referred to as an “ex-convict,” insisting that his recent stint in a correctional facility should not define him as such.

In an interview with influencer Isbae, Bobrisky clarified that he was not sent to prison, but rather to a correctional center.

“I am not an ex-convict because I can’t be convicted for spraying my money. I am not an ex-convict. I wouldn’t accept that,” Bobrisky stated firmly, addressing the incident that led to his incarceration.

In April this year, Bobrisky was sentenced to six months in a correctional facility for what was described as “Naira abuse,” after he was found guilty of spraying money at a public event, a practice deemed unlawful by authorities.

Despite the sentence, Bobrisky expressed no regret over his actions, even indicating that he plans to continue spraying money at events, albeit exclusively in dollars from now on.

Reflecting on his time in the correctional facility, Bobrisky downplayed the experience, describing it as a much-needed break rather than a punishment.

“It was a time to go and rest. I have been working so hard, and I think their decision was okay for me. Their decision was to break me, but sadly nothing happened to mummy of Lagos. I am still fine and still good and will continue to be fine and good,” he remarked.

Bobrisky, who has become a well-known figure in Nigeria’s entertainment scene, claimed that the authorities had sought to break his spirit, but instead, he emerged unscathed.

“This people really wanted to break me. I have never seen anywhere they sentence someone for spraying their own money. Everything happened like a movie. I sprayed my own hard-earned money, and I was sentenced to where we have a lot of criminals. It is a whole lot,” he recounted.

In a lighthearted tone, Bobrisky joked that prison life “fits him” and that he wouldn’t mind returning, but only for a short stay. He also dismissed rumors that he received preferential treatment while serving his sentence, insisting that he was not held in a VIP section but was instead among other inmates.

When asked whether he was placed in the male or female section of the correctional facility, Bobrisky revealed that he spent his time in the male correctional center, which he found more enjoyable.

“I spent it at the male correctional center and I loved it. If they had allowed me to stay in the female correctional center, I wouldn’t have had fun. I wouldn’t have enjoyed myself. While I was at the male correctional center, I was the only different person there, and so people were nice to me, showing me care, giving me stuff. If I had stayed in the female ward, who would have shown me care?” he said.

Bobrisky also noted that during his detention by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), he was held in a female cell.
