Daily Trust is reporting that Gunmen suspected to be members of the dreaded Boko Haram sect today disguised as traders and opened fire on unsuspecting traders at Damasak town in Borno State.

A top security source who craved for anonymity told Daily Trust that fighting is currnetly ongoing between Nigerian troops and the insurgents in the market arena following a distressed call by fleeing traders.

Sources told Daily Trust that the insurgents went to the centre of the market before they brandished their assault rifles. Meanwhile, details of the number of casualty are still sketchy.

“The attack on the market started around 11am when many traders and buyers gathered at the market,” another source told Daily Trust.

Damasak, a farming and fishing community is the headquarters of Mobbar Local Government Area of Borno State.

Just two days ago, multiple explosions rocked Maiduguri, the Borno State capital, and a recent report claims that Nigeria’s neighbour, Chad, may be the major backer of Boko Haram.
