The Nigerian Army has confirmed that a suicide bomber was responsible for the explosion that occurred Tuesday evening at a mosque in Gamboru Market, Maiduguri.

According to Theatre Command spokesman Lt. Col. Sani Uba, preliminary findings indicate that a suspected Boko Haram operative detonated an improvised explosive device, resulting in the immediate death of the attacker and two civilians. Security forces, alongside NEMA and state officials, promptly secured the area to ensure public safety and manage the crisis.

Okay News reports that the casualty toll has risen, with two additional civilians succumbing to their injuries at the hospital, bringing the confirmed death toll to four civilians. A total of 32 people sustained various degrees of injuries, and while most are currently in stable condition, at least two victims remain in critical care.

Vice President Kashim Shettima has condemned the attack, describing it as a heinous crime, and reaffirmed the Federal Government’s unwavering resolve to confront insecurity across the nation.

In response to the incident, the military has intensified surveillance and security measures within Maiduguri and its environs to protect residents during the festive season. The Operation Hadin Kai headquarters assured the public that security agencies are working around the clock to prevent further threats and bring any collaborators to justice.
