One week after Boko Haram attacked Baga, the insurgents have littered the streets and nearby bushes of the border town with corpses.
The District Head of the town, Alhaji Baba Abba Hassan, confirmed this to Daily Sun on Thursday in Maiduguri, stating that hundreds of corpses still lay on the streets and bushes of the fishing town located along the Lake Chad Basin area.

Hassan said that hundreds of people were killed in last Saturday’s attack, adding that many of the victims were women and children. The district head explained that the insurgents pursued them into the bushes while fleeing the town, leaving a trail of blood and death.

According to him, many of the residents of Baga have crossed over to Chad and Niger Republic for safety, even as he added that some may have drowned in the lake around the Chad Basin.

He said the information given to him by the residents indicated that the insurgents were mobilised from Sambiza, Boko Haram’s famous camp and captured Gwoza town where it declared an Islamic Caliphate since October last year.

The district head however denied reports circulating in the media that about 2,000 people were killed in  last Saturday’s attack on Baga, saying the number was fewer. He also debunked the news that Boko Haram had carriedanother attack on the town recently.
