Biu, NIGERIA – Borno State Governor, Professor Babagana Umara Zulum, has approved the immediate employment of 100 unemployed graduates from Biu Local Government Area as a direct tactical measure to dismantle political thuggery, youth restiveness, and associated social vices in the state.
The governor made the executive declaration on Tuesday during a high-profile courtesy visit to the Emir of Biu, Alhaji (Dr) Mustapha Umar Mustapha II, at his palace. Okay News reports that Governor Zulum was in Southern Borno to officially flag off the 2026 Wet Farming Season, launch heavily subsidized fertilizer distribution for smallholder farmers, and advance localized socio-economic empowerment initiatives.
Under the newly announced job creation template, the administration plans to systematically absorb 50 graduates into the state civil service from every standard local government area, while larger urban councils—including Maiduguri Metropolitan Council (MMC), Jere, Bama, Gwoza, and Askira/Uba—will receive a double allocation of 100 graduate jobs each. Governor Zulum instructed Biu local leadership to prioritize candidates specializing in healthcare delivery, English, Mathematics, and Physics, with a strategic emphasis on rehabilitating those currently vulnerable to political exploitation. In an unusually candid address, the governor observed that the children of high-profile politicians, senators, or commissioners are never found engaging in street thuggery, emphasizing that sustainable public sector employment is the only way to shield underprivileged youth from criminal exploitation.
Concurrently, the governor issued a stern warning against the increasing vandalism of public utility infrastructure, particularly power transmission assets, warning that saboteurs will face the full weight of criminal prosecution. On the political front, Governor Zulum revealed that following competitive internal consultations involving 27 high-profile aspirants, the All Progressives Congress (APC) will officially unveil its deputy governorship running mate next week to succeed his current term. The governor’s official delegation to Southern Borno included the Senator representing Borno South, Mohammed Ali Ndume, Borno APC State Chairman Hon. Bello Ayuba, and the Deputy Speaker of the Borno State House of Assembly, Hon. Abdullahi Musa Askira.
