Birnin-Kebbi, NIGERIA – The Speaker of the Kebbi State House of Assembly, Right Honourable Muhammad Usman Ankwe, has passed away. The lawmaker, who represented the Zuru constituency, reportedly died on Monday night, April 6, 2026.

Okay News gathered that Ankwe, a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), was elected Speaker during the inauguration of the 10th Assembly on June 8, 2023. His election followed a nomination by Salihu Dan-Goje and was seconded by Abubakar Imam, marking the beginning of a tenure where he pledged to lead with legislative responsibility and integrity.

While the specific circumstances surrounding his death have not yet been disclosed, the news has triggered an outpouring of grief across the state. Fellow lawmakers, political associates, and constituents have described the late Speaker as a dedicated public servant and a stabilizing force within the state’s legislative arm.

Further announcements regarding burial arrangements are expected from his family and the state government shortly. His passing creates a significant vacuum in the Kebbi State House of Assembly, where he had previously solicited the cooperation of his colleagues to ensure the administration of Governor Nasir Idris delivered good governance to the people of Kebbi.
