BREAKING: Lagos Police Detain Popular TikTok Influencer Peller After Viral Reckless Driving Incident

The Lagos State Police Command has confirmed the arrest and detention of popular social media influencer and content creator, Habeeb Hamzat, widely known online as Peller, following widespread public concern over a viral video that captured him driving recklessly during a live broadcast.

The incident, which occurred on Sunday, December 14, 2025, showed the influencer operating a vehicle in a dangerous manner before crashing, all while streaming live to his audience. The footage quickly circulated across social media platforms, drawing criticism and alarm from road users and members of the public.

Okay News reports that the police action followed mounting outrage from citizens who described the act as irresponsible and capable of causing severe harm. In a statement issued on Tuesday, December 16, 2025, and signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, Superintendent of Police Abimbola Adebisi, the command explained that the arrest was necessary to protect public safety and discourage similar conduct.

“The Lagos State Police Command has arrested and detained, for further investigation, Habeeb Hamzat aka ‘PELLER’, subsequent to the viral video that surfaced online on Sunday 14th December, 2025, in which he was seen driving recklessly, leading to a dangerous road crash and serious motor accident, while the incident was being live-streamed, thereby endangering his life and that of other road users,” the statement read.

The police further described the act as extremely dangerous, warning that such behavior could easily result in fatalities. According to the statement, “His action constitutes a deliberate attempt to commit suicide and endangers the lives of other innocent people.”

Authorities also confirmed that the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for an in depth and comprehensive investigation. “The case is currently being investigated by the State Criminal Investigation Department. The outcome of the investigation will be made public, and the suspect will be charged to the court of competent jurisdiction in accordance with the law,” the police added.

Reacting to the incident, the Commissioner of Police in Lagos State, Olohundare Jimoh, issued a stern warning to social media influencers and the general public against using online platforms to promote illegal or unsafe behavior.

“The Commissioner of Police, Lagos State, CP Olohundare Jimoh, strongly warns social media influencers, content creators and general members of the public to desist from using social media platforms to engage in or promote reckless, dangerous, or unlawful and criminal acts,” the statement continued.

He further emphasized that such actions would not be tolerated under any circumstances, stressing that the law would be applied equally regardless of social status or online popularity. The police reiterated their commitment to enforcing traffic regulations and ensuring public safety across the state.

The incident has reignited national discussions around the growing trend of dangerous stunts by online personalities seeking attention and engagement. Road safety experts continue to warn that reckless driving, speeding, and distracted driving remain leading causes of traffic accidents in Lagos.
