President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has formally submitted a list of three ambassadorial nominees to the Nigerian Senate for confirmation, marking a significant development in the country’s diplomatic appointments.

Okay News reports that the announcement was made by the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, during the plenary session on Wednesday. The session was streamed live on the National Assembly’s YouTube channel and closely monitored by various media outlets.

The nominees forwarded by President Tinubu include Kayode Are from Ogun State, Aminu Dalhatu from Jigawa State, and Ayodele Oke. After reading the letter from the President, Senate President Akpabio said, “The list contains three names for now. I am sure others will follow.”

Since assuming office in 2023, President Tinubu had not made any ambassadorial appointments, a situation that has attracted criticism from political observers and stakeholders concerned about Nigeria’s foreign representation. The current submission is expected to kickstart the confirmation process in the Senate, which will determine the official deployment of the nominees to their respective diplomatic missions.
