Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) made history on Saturday by winning their inaugural UEFA Champions League trophy, delivering a stunning 5-0 thrashing of Inter Milan in the final held at Munich’s Allianz Arena. This emphatic victory marks the largest winning margin in the 70-year history of the European Cup and Champions League finals.

The Qatari-owned French giants, under the guidance of coach Luis Enrique, who secured his second Champions League title after winning with Barcelona in 2015, showcased a youthful and dynamic squad. Teenager Désiré Doué was the standout star, scoring twice and assisting the opening goal, becoming the first teenager since Eusebio in 1962 to net two goals in a final.

PSG took the lead early in the 12th minute through Achraf Hakimi, who scored against his former club after a slick pass from Doué. Doué then doubled the advantage with a deflected shot in the 20th minute. The French champions continued to dominate, with Doué adding a second goal just after the hour mark. Khvicha Kvaratskhelia and substitute Senny Mayulu completed the rout by scoring the fourth and fifth goals respectively, sealing a comprehensive victory.

This triumph completes a historic continental treble for PSG, who had already secured the Ligue 1 title and Coupe de France this season. They become only the second French club to win Europe’s premier club competition, following Marseille’s 1993 success. The victory also underscores the success of PSG’s strategic shift from signing established stars to building a young, cohesive team, especially after the departure of Kylian Mbappé last summer.

Inter Milan, managed by Simone Inzaghi, suffered a heavy defeat in their second Champions League final in three years, ending a trophyless season after narrowly missing out on the Serie A title to Napoli. Their aging squad now faces the challenge of rebuilding to compete at the highest level again.

The match was notable for PSG’s relentless attacking style and clinical finishing, with Inter struggling to contain their opponents throughout. Despite a brief chance for Inter in the first half, the visitors were overwhelmed by PSG’s superior tactics and youthful energy.

As Champions League winners, PSG will face Tottenham Hotspur, winners of the 2024-25 UEFA Europa League, in the 2025 UEFA Super Cup and have qualified automatically for the 2025 FIFA Intercontinental Cup and the 2029 FIFA Club World Cup.
