The Supreme Court, has on Thursday, February 11, declared Darius Ishaku as the legitimate governor of Taraba state.

The apex court upheld the outcome of the April 11, 2015, governorship election of the candidate of the People Democratic Party, PDP.

A seven-man bench of the Supreme Court led by Justice Ibrahim Galadima after taking the arguments from both contesting sides has now dismissed the the appeal that was lodged by Senator Aisha Jumai Alhassan of the All Progressives Congress, APC.

Justice Bode Rhodes-Vivour who delivered the unanimous judgment this afternoon, said: “I am of the firm view that there is no merit in this appeal and it is hereby dismissed. The Judgment of the ‎Court of Appeal is affirmed and the election of governor Darius Ishaku is hereby upheld.”

Aisha Jumai Al-Hassan of the All Progressives Congress challenged the return of Darius Ishaku of the Peoples Democratic Party to the power as the winner of the 2015 governorship election of Taraba state.

Al-Hassan had scored a victory at the election Tribunal but had it overturned at the Court of Appeal which prompted her to petition the tussle before the Supreme Court.

The Supreme Court panel reserved its reasons for the judgement till February 22.
