BRIGHTON, England — Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes has made history by breaking the all-time Premier League record for the most assists in a single season.
The midfielder registered his 21st assist of the domestic campaign during Sunday afternoon’s final-day match against Brighton & Hove Albion at the Amex Stadium.
Okay News reports that Fernandes set up teammate Patrick Dorgu from a corner to open the scoring for Manchester United, moving him clear of the previous record of 20 assists held jointly by Arsenal legend Thierry Henry and Manchester City playmaker Kevin De Bruyne.
The milestone crowns a stellar individual campaign for the 31-year-old Portuguese international, who was also named the Premier League Player of the Season for his creative displays.
While Fernandes has seen his goalscoring numbers drop to a lower-than-usual eight league goals this term, his tactical shift into a primary playmaker role has driven United’s attack throughout the year.
The record-breaking moment adds further shine to a standout year for the midfielder, cementing his status among the most productive creative talents in the history of English top-flight football.
