Chairman, League of Imams in Ogun State and Chief Imam of Egbaland, Liadi Orunsolu, has died at age 99.

Governor Dapo Abiodun announced the death of the imam via his Twitter handle on Tuesday.

According to the governor, the imam never treated him as a governor and he (Abiodun) will miss him for his words.

He wrote: “We have lost Alhaji Liadi Orunsolu at the age of 99, to the road that leads to where our ancestors rest.

“I commiserate with the people of Egbaland in particular and of the State and the Muslim ummah in general, on the death of the Chairman, League of Imams in Ogun State and Chief Imam of Egbaland.

“That Almighty Allah (SWT) let Baba Orunsolu see the end of the Holy Month of Ramadan and more so, at that grand age tells us that it is important we immortalise him by emulating the virtues exemplified by the late cleric.

“Alhaji never treated me as a Governor. He was a father to me, and I will personally miss him for his words of wisdom.

“May Allah grant him Aljanah Firdaus, and comfort the family he left with us.”

Also, President Muhammadu Buhari in a statement issued by his spokesman, Femi Adesina, saluted the life of piety and utmost submission to the will of Almighty Allah lived by the departed, who was also President-General of League of Imams and Alfas in Ogun State.

According to the president, “He lived a long and qualitative life, devoted to the service of Allah.” President Buhari prays that “May he be bountifully rewarded, having completed his course.”

In addition, Buhari charged all those who mourn the deceased to derive challenge from his devout life, and seek to approximate same.
