Dakar, SENEGAL – The President of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), Patrice Motsepe, arrived in Dakar, Senegal, on Wednesday, April 8, 2026, in a high-stakes diplomatic mission to address the fallout from the controversial stripping of Senegal’s 2025 AFCON title.
Okay News gathered that the visit follows CAF’s shock decision on March 17 to overturn Senegal’s 1-0 victory over Morocco in the January 18 final, instead awarding the Atlas Lions a 3-0 win.
CAF cited procedural grounds and “regulations about leaving the field” after Senegalese players and staff walked off the pitch in Rabat during added time to protest a penalty award.
During his visit, Motsepe is scheduled to meet with President Bassirou Diomaye Faye at the presidential palace. The CAF president has expressed a commitment to “working together to grow African football” and stated he would respect the eventual ruling of the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS), where the Senegalese Football Federation has already filed an appeal.
