Chadian troops have launched air strikes on Boko Haram camps in Nigeria in retaliation for twin suicide bombings which were blamed on the group.

This was disclosed by the Chadian military on Thursday, June 18, 2015, via a statement.

According to the statement, which cited the “cowardly and barbaric acts perpetrated by Boko Haram terrorists”, the military “carried out reprisal airstrikes on the terrorists’ positions in Nigerian territory” on Wednesday.

The Chadian military said further that six Boko Haram bases were destroyed in the air raids, which caused “considerable human and material losses.”

Chad also said that it would continue its “merciless” pursuit of the insurgents “so that no drop of Chadian blood spilt goes unpunished.”

The twin bombings, which occurred on Monday, June 15, in the capital, N’Djamena, is reported to have claimed 33 lives.

Chad’s President, Idriss Deby, earlier this month, met with Nigerian President, Muhammadu Buhari to discuss plans for a multinational force against the sect.
