Dr. Abduljalil Tafawa-Balewa, a presidential aspirant on the platform of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has explained why he is contesting against President Goodluck Jonathan despite his adoption as the sole candidate of the PDP.
Responding to questions in an interview he granted to the Dailytrust newspaper, Tafawa-Balewa stated that he is challenging President Jonathan because it is his right as a Nigerian to contest.
The son of Nigeria’s first Prime Minister, Tafawa Balewa, added that: “I am contesting strictly because I think that I can deliver a lot to Nigerians.”
Commenting on what he thinks the current administration has not done, the politician who holds a PhD in nuclear chemistry said: “I think the power situation should have changed. This is a very basic need. It’s even going to be considered as a human right, that we should have access to power. Without adequate power, we cannot have any industrialisation; we cannot call ourselves a functioning economy.
“Our educational system is also terrible. Even before that, we need to talk about security. These are all related. Without power, even the entrepreneurs and investors are not going to come here to invest, because it will cost them too much to be able to produce anything. It will be so expensive that profit will be very little.”
It would be recalled that two PDP aspirants, Dr. Abdul-Jhalil Tafawa-Balewa and Prof. Akasoba Duke-Abiola who had already paid the sum of N24million for the party’s presidential nomination were denied the party’s nomination form.
However, Prof. Duke-Abiola has dragged the People Democratic Party, PDP, before a Federal High Court, sitting in Abuja for declaring President Goodluck Jonathan as its sole candidate in the 2015 elections.
