Lennart Johansson, the founder of Champions League and former president of UEFA, has passed away on Wednesday at the age of 89.

Okay.ng understands that the UEFA announced his death in a short statement on Twitter.

The tweet read:

“It brings everyone at UEFA tremendous sadness to learn of the death of our former President, Lennart Johansson.

Our thoughts and condolences are with Lennart’s friends, family and the wider world of football. A huge loss to the game.”
