What was meant to be a night of celebration quickly turned chaotic at Nigerian global Afrobeats star Davido’s concert in Enugu State, southeastern Nigeria, after fans reported poor security, overcrowding, and widespread theft during the third leg of his ongoing “5ive Tour.”

Okay News reports that the event, held at Michael Okpara Square on Saturday, November 1, attracted an estimated 40,000 fans, nearly double the venue’s capacity, resulting in confusion and safety concerns.

Davido, whose real name is David Adeleke, had earlier announced his Nigerian tour stops across Akwa Ibom, Adamawa, Enugu, Ibadan, and Lagos, as part of his global “5ive Tour.” While earlier shows in Uyo and Yola reportedly went smoothly, the Enugu leg was marred by chaos and disturbing eyewitness accounts shared online.

‘The Gate Was Broken, They Used Razor Blades To Tear Bags’

A TikTok user identified as @adis_beautification recounted how the crowd overwhelmed security personnel.
“Those without tickets entered; the gate was broken, and the security guards weren’t at the gate. The security did a terrible job. Touts entered. They used razor blades to tear bags,” she said.

She added, “So does it mean if we go to a concert, our safety is not guaranteed? The number of girls who were robbed was a lot. Unfortunately, my phone was stolen.”

‘They Were Pressing Girls; The Crowd Was Too Much’

Another attendee, @hairz_by_steph, described scenes of harassment and fear.
“They were pressing girls’ breasts and buttocks. I lost my nails; the crowd was too much,” she said. “The event was supposed to start at 4 p.m., but Davido only arrived at 3 a.m. People were entering without tags. A guy behind me was trying to take something from me.”

She said the overcrowding reached a dangerous level: “I met another friend who was crying; her phone was stolen. Security had to carry me out because the crowd was too much.”

‘People Were Falling; Security Used Tasers And Canes’

Another TikTok user, @mmachukwu, shared a video recounting her distressing experience.
“The entrance was crazy. There were tasers, there were canes. People were falling down. Security was flogging people and using tasers. It was terrifying,” she said.

She described the scene as “a stampede-like situation,” adding, “The stampede was real — gates were forced down, people were falling over each other, and security completely broke down.”

‘I Lost Everything — My Wig, Shoes, Phone, And Bag’

A user identified as @reallifestories tearfully narrated how she was robbed of all her belongings.
“The wig I borrowed was stolen, my shoe, my other phone — everything in my bag,” she said. “Someone helped me with clothes and slippers to go home. It’s not fair.”

Calls For Accountability

Social media users have since condemned the event’s organisers for negligence and lack of safety measures. “It’s 2025 — there’s no excuse. Event organisers must start factoring in the safety and well-being of women at gatherings like this,” one user wrote on X (formerly Twitter).

As of press time, neither Davido nor his management team had issued an official statement regarding the incident.
