Maverick singer and entertainer, Charles Oputa, popularly known as Charly Boy, has paid tribute to his late father, Justice Chukwudifu Oputa, on the occasion of the 10th anniversary of his passing.

Describing his father as the “Socrates of the Nigerian Supreme Court,” Charly Boy reflected on the profound impact Justice Oputa had on his life and family.

In a heartfelt post shared on social media platform X, Charly Boy reminisced about his father’s legacy and the unique qualities that defined him both as a father and as a judge.

“It’s 10 years today since the Socrates of the Nigerian Supreme Court passed on,” Charly Boy wrote. “He was a very special man, the rallying point for the unity we still enjoy in our great family today.”

Charly Boy fondly remembered his father’s influence on his upbringing and career, acknowledging the significant role Justice Oputa played in shaping his values and principles.

“As a Father he was a very special man,” Charly Boy continued. “He ran his household like a love court house. On the bench he was the Socrates, a judges judge. His judgments were so profound.”

The veteran entertainer also revealed how he perceived himself to be in competition with his father during his formative years, as the expectations set by Justice Oputa’s reputation loomed large.

“In the beginning of building the brand ‘Charlyboy’ little did I know that I was in a frantic competition against my own father,” Charly Boy confessed.

“Everyone never stopped reminding me of how special he was as if I wasn’t carved out to be outstanding.”

Despite this perceived competition, Charly Boy expressed gratitude for the invaluable lessons he learned from his father, emphasizing qualities such as family unity, simplicity, contentment, and humility.

“I learnt from him, how to keep one’s family together, how to live a simple life, the art of contentment and how to stay humble.

“Today we remember you and all that you stood for,” Charly Boy concluded. “Continue to rest in peace my dearest father. Thanks for believing in my dream.”
