Chelsea have been charged by the FA after players and coaches surrounded the referee during their 1-1 draw with Huddersfield on Wednesday.

The incident occurred when referee Lee Mason blew for half-time as Chelsea were preparing to take a corner, with the score at 0-0.

A statement from the FA read: “Chelsea have been charged with failing to ensure their players and/or officials conducted themselves in an orderly fashion.

“The incident occurred at half-time of yesterday’s game against Huddersfield Town. Chelsea have until 6pm on Tuesday (15 May 2018) to respond to the charge.”

Chelsea were chasing a win in their penultimate Premier League game of the season that would have kept the pressure on Tottenham and Liverpool in the race for the top four.

However, Huddersfield held Chelsea to a 1-1 draw, damaging Chelsea’s chances of qualifying for next season’s Champions League, securing their top flight survival in the process.
