Liam Rosenior is positioned to take over as the head coach of Chelsea Football Club following the departure of Enzo Maresca on New Year’s Day.
Rosenior, who currently manages the French side Strasbourg, is scheduled to undergo formal interviews with the club’s sporting leadership team this Monday to finalize the transition.
Okay News reports that the move is being facilitated by the club’s parent company, BlueCo, which owns both Chelsea and Strasbourg. Officials from the French club are reportedly in London to discuss the move and interview potential replacements for Rosenior, with former Wolves manager Gary O’Neil identified as a top candidate to take over in Ligue 1.
The appointment is expected to move quickly, with the possibility of Rosenior being in the dugout for Chelsea’s Premier League match against Fulham on Wednesday. Interim coach Calum McFarlane, who recently led the team to a 1-1 draw against Manchester City, noted that the club intended to have a permanent successor in place shortly after the weekend.
While some football analysts have expressed concerns regarding Rosenior’s level of experience compared to past high-profile Chelsea managers, his tactical style is seen as a fit for the club’s current youth-centered project.
Rosenior previously earned praise for his work at Hull City and his recent success in France, where he implemented a high-pressing, possession-based system.
