Chicken Republic, the prominent Nigerian fast-food franchise, has unveiled plans to shift away from the use of styrofoam and plastic containers.

This decision aligns with the recent ban imposed by the Lagos government on the usage and distribution of styrofoam and other single-use plastics across the state.

Food Concepts PLC, the parent company of Chicken Republic, in a statement released on Monday, expressed appreciation for the Lagos State Government’s decision, recognizing it as a significant move to protect the environment.

The company declared an immediate commencement of the transition away from using styrofoam packs for both walk-in and online orders at its outlets in Lagos.

Chicken Republic encourages customers across the state to contribute to sustainability efforts by bringing their reusable food containers.

As part of the commitment to eco-friendly practices, the company announced that there would be additional charges for plastic takeaway packs, emphasizing its dedication to reducing the overall plastic footprint.

The statement from Food Concepts PLC reads: “Food Concepts Plc applauds the recent decision by the Lagos State Government to ban the use of Styrofoam, recognizing it as a significant step towards protecting our environment. Effective immediately, all our outlets in Lagos will commence the transition from using Styrofoam packs for both walk-in and online orders.”

It continues, “We encourage our citizens across the state to bring their own reusable food containers. In line with our commitment to sustainability, we will charge for reusable plastic takeaway containers henceforth. We are also actively working towards reducing our overall plastic footprint. We apologize for any inconvenience during this adaptation to eco-friendly, sustainable options.”
