Chinese Super League club, Tianjin say they have not made contact with Chelsea striker, Diego Costa or his agent, “during the past six months.”

The comment was in reaction to reports that Costa, 28, may move to the Chinese club.

The club’s owner, Shu Yuhui, had said a bid to sign Costa had been prevented by new rules in the Chinese Super League which state that only three foreign players can be fielded per game.

Tianjin, in a statement on its website yesterday,
laid the speculations to rest.

It reads: “For the past six months, our club have not involved in any form of communication and negotiation with Diego Costa nor his representatives.

“Our club will draw up a rational transfer plan as an aim to improve the spectator experience of the Chinese Super League and meet its sustainability demands.

“We won’t take part in any unhealthy competition, thus preventing all overpriced signings.

”We have no intention of becoming involved in any unhealthy competition and, consequently, paying a premium price.”

Costa’s 20 top-flight goals this season helped Chelsea win the league title.

Tianjin were promoted to the Super League last season and have Italian World Cup winner, Fabio Cannavaro as their manager.
