The Civil Defence, Correctional, Fire and Immigration Services Board (CDCFIB) has approved disciplinary actions against 31 officers of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) for various infractions, including serious misconduct and criminal conspiracy.
The decision followed recommendations from the board’s Disciplinary and General-Purpose Committee, which convened on July 11, 2025. The actions were confirmed in a statement issued by Assistant Comptroller of Immigration, Akinsola Akinlabi.
Eight officers were dismissed for violating Service Regulations, while five others were compulsorily retired for misconduct. An additional eight officers were demoted by one rank, and five received written warnings.
Appeals from two dismissed officers were reviewed but ultimately rejected due to lack of merit. One officer was reinstated after a successful appeal, and two others were cleared of all charges.
In a related case, two junior personnel were dismissed following internal disciplinary proceedings concluded in April and September 2025. They were found guilty of criminal conspiracy involving theft, illegal firearm possession, and kidnapping.
The disciplinary measures were carried out under the supervision of CDCFIB Chairman and Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, alongside NIS Comptroller-General Kemi Nandap.
Akinlabi emphasized that the board remains committed to enforcing discipline, integrity, and accountability across all services under its jurisdiction. He assured that sanctions would be applied without bias and in accordance with established regulations.
Earlier in July, CG Nandap disclosed that the NIS legal department was pursuing disciplinary action against officers implicated in the illegal issuance of green passports to foreign nationals.
The Nigeria Immigration Service operates under the oversight of CDCFIB and is responsible for border security, passport issuance, and migration management. The latest disciplinary actions reflect ongoing efforts to uphold professional standards and restore public trust.
