ABUJA, Nigeria – Chief of Army Staff Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu has reaffirmed the Nigerian Army’s focus on human capital development, promising additional support to the Nigerian Army University Biu (NAUB).
Okay News reports that Shaibu spoke on Wednesday, July 15, 2026, while receiving the university’s Governing Council and Management Team at Army Headquarters in Abuja.
The Army chief described NAUB as a strategic institution for Nigeria’s defence system, citing its work in cybersecurity, cyber warfare and artificial intelligence. He said investment in education, research, innovation and technology was necessary to build a professional and adaptable military capable of responding to evolving security threats.
Shaibu also commended the university’s plan to establish a Centre for Military Performance Management, saying it would support defence research, improve institutional efficiency and strengthen strategic decision-making.
He assured the delegation of continued Army support for NAUB’s operational and infrastructure needs. The COAS approved an assessment for additional accommodation for military faculty and staff and said the Army would work with TETFund towards constructing a permanent Senate Building for the university.
Shaibu also pledged support for the accreditation of NAUB’s academic programmes.
Earlier, the university’s Chancellor, Major General Felix Mujakperuo (rtd), praised the COAS for his leadership and support. He also announced that NAUB plans to hold its combined graduation ceremony in October 2026.
