Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde has provided an update on the explosion that occurred in Ibadan on Tuesday night, revealing that the company responsible for storing explosive devices has been identified.
Speaking in an interview with Channels Television on Wednesday, the governor stated that there are foreign names associated with the company’s documents at the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC).
The explosion, which took place at Dejo Oyelese Street in the Bodija axis of Ibadan, resulted in two deaths and multiple injuries.
Governor Makinde had earlier attributed the incident to illegal miners who stored explosive devices in one of the buildings.
In the latest update, Makinde clarified that the explosion had no connection to banditry or insurgency. He disclosed that one of the individuals receiving treatment in the hospital due to the blast had succumbed to injuries, bringing the death toll to three.
“The truth is that we have identified the company involved with the storage of explosive devices in that particular building,” Makinde stated.
“We have an individual of interest who the security agencies should be inviting for questioning.”
Emphasizing the commitment to uncovering the truth, Makinde assured the people of Oyo State that his administration had no reason to cover up any details regarding the cause of the incident.
He urged residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to authorities, emphasizing the need for collective responsibility in ensuring the safety of communities.
“It is not anything that has to do with banditry or insurgency. It is simply illegal miners who decided to store explosives in a residential area,” Makinde explained.
“We are trying to uncover the identities of the people. We’ve done a few fact-finding on the company involved, and yes, there are indeed some foreign names on the CAC documents of the company involved, but these are still early days.”
