The Federal Government has pledged to pay National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members the outstanding balance of their increased monthly allowance, now set at ₦77,000. This follows an announcement on September 25, 2024, which declared an increase from the previous ₦33,000, to be effective from July 2024. Despite this announcement, the adjusted allowance has yet to be fully implemented.

Minister of Youth Development, Ayodele Olawande, has now reiterated the government’s commitment to paying the arrears. He assured that both current corps members and those who served during the period of the announced increment will receive backdated payments. Speaking with newsmen,” Olawande confirmed that the necessary details have been collected for these payments. He acknowledged that while the arrears will be paid, it may not happen immediately.

“The backlog, we will work on it and make sure it is paid. It may not be immediate but it will happen,” he stated. This assurance comes a week after the NYSC’s new Director General, Olakunle Nafiu, indicated that the new allowance would begin to be paid in March.
