ABUJA, Nigeria – The Federal High Court in Abuja granted bail of ₦2bn ($1.33 million) to the National President of Miyetti Allah Kautal Hore, Bello Bodejo, on Monday, July 20, 2026, at 12:28 PM WAT regarding his ongoing trial for alleged money laundering.
The presiding judge, Justice Inyang Ekwo, ruled on the bail application and stated that the offences were bailable. Okay News reports that Justice Ekwo ordered the defendant to produce one surety who must reside in Abuja and possess a three-year tax clearance certificate.
The court mandated that the surety must own landed property worth ₦2bn in Abuja, with title documents subject to verification by the court registrar. The judge directed Bodejo to deposit his international passport and barred him from travelling outside Nigeria without permission.
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission arraigned Bodejo on July 9, 2026, on a multi-count charge involving about $2.63m. Following the arraignment, the prosecution counsel, Wahab Shittu, applied for a trial date, while the defence counsel, Ahmed Raji, argued for the bail application initially filed on June 30, 2026.
In one of the counts, the commission alleged that Bodejo, “on or about January 11, 2022, in Abuja… accepted a cash payment of $100,000 from a former Accountant-General of Bauchi State, Sa’idu Abubakar, without lawful authority…”
The anti-graft agency stated the transaction exceeded the statutory cash threshold of ₦5m ($3,333) prescribed by the Money Laundering (Prohibition) Act, 2011. The commission accused the defendant of accepting additional cash payments of $200,000, $100,000, $980,000, $750,000 and $500,000 from Sa’idu Abubakar on different dates between 2022 and 2024.
The judge adjourned the case until October 5, 2026, October 6, 2026, and October 7, 2026, for the commencement of the trial.
